Fire crews from eight companies responded to a three alarm fire at 7062 S. Lake street road, Kaiser-Wilcox, in Bergen after receiving the call for extreme heat in the building, which was called in by the owner of the property a little before 11:00p.m.
When the Assistant Chief with the Bergen Fire Department arrived on scene, he encountered heavy flames coming from the backside of the shop building and called for a second alarm.
Soon after, a third alarm was called for manpower.
“We believe we maintained the integrity of the main building,” says Deputy Chief Chuck Dodson of the Bergen Fire Dept.
“Our main concern was it spreading to the wood portion or main portion of the building. Firefighters were aggressively able to get inside and contain the fire before we had any major significant extension.”
The fire was under control after about an hour.
The maintenance shop suffered heavy fire damage. The main portion of the building suffered some water damage.
Fire crews will remain on scene for most of the night because of ongoing hotspots and extensive overhaul.
Fire investigators are on scene and are looking into the cause of the fire.
No one was injured in the blaze.
