After requesting a speed limit reduction on Clipnock road in June, from 55mph to 45mph, the Town of Stafford was advised by NYS that the request was turned down.
The issue of speeding dump trucks was brought to the Town Board’s attention after Tiffany Rada and other neighbors requested the reduction on Clipnock road after an incident where Rada had to throw her 8 year old daughter into the yard at the school bus stop.
Rada says her daughter’s school bus had it’s caution lights on at the end of their driveway when they heard a dump truck approaching and accelerating really hard as it approached the school bus.
“Get out of the way, get out of the way,” Rada yelled.
“Next thing you know I am like Hercules and I tossed my daughter in the front yard,” says Rada.
“He was literally going to take us out because he didn’t want to stop for the school bus and he did not even stop to see if we were okay.”
Rada says that Clipnock road is a hot route for dump trucks going to and from the quarry in Stafford on Main road. She says its not safe on either side of the street. Dump trucks going well over the speed of 55 mph are going down the road from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00p.m. almost every day.
The are no posted speed limit signs and the only school bus sign is located up the road in Bethany.
The Town and the residents were advised of the state’s decision in a letter.
The letter advises that after a complete review of Clipnock road between Rt. 5 and Torrey road and in consideration of the roadway characteristics and the review by a Traffic Supervisor with the NYS Police, we have determined that the establishing of a lower speed limit would not be warranted at this time.
The review included an on site observation of the road by a regional traffic engineer and the traffic supervisor with the NYS Police.
We moved here two years ago on Clipnock..trucks drive like a bat out of hell…we requested a school bus sign and it was placed as we live on a curve with neighbors trees blinding our driveway…aka our kids…speed limit needs to be reduced and enforced.
We have the same problem on Fargo Rd. Now they are contemplating an extra 60 or so vehicles due to duplex rental proposal.
