On December 11, 2018, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) out of SP Warsaw arrested Lynn M. Hall, 48, of Castile, NY for Attempted Murder 1st degree (A-1 Felony), Attempted Assault 1st degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree.
On December 11, 2018 at approximately 6:35 A.M., Wyoming County Sheriff Gregory Rudolph was on his way to work in uniform, operating an unmarked Ford Taurus Police Vehicle. While traveling on State Route 238 in the town of Attica, an unknown vehicle began to tailgate Sheriff Rudolph flashing its lights. Sheriff Rudolph pulled over to see if the vehicle needed assistance. The vehicle then pulled in front of the Sheriff’s vehicle blocking him in.
Hall exited his vehicle and met Sheriff Rudolph at the door of his police vehicle and engaged him in a physical altercation. At this point, the Sheriff recognized the man as someone who had applied for a pistol permit and had come to the Sheriff’s Office the day prior to inquire on it. Hall attempted to gain control of the Sheriff’s weapon and a struggle continued to the ground on the side of the roadway. Hall ended up on top of the Sheriff with a knife threatening to take his life. During the ground altercation, two civilian newspaper deliverers stopped and assisted the Sheriff along with an off-duty New York State Trooper. Hall was handcuffed and taken into custody.
Sheriff Rudolph was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office turned the investigation over to the NYSP.
Hall was transported to SP Warsaw and processed. Hall was arraigned and remanded to the Livingston County Correctional Facility on no bail.
The Wyoming County District Attorney, Donald O’Geen was consulted in this investigation.
This is still an ongoing criminal investigation.
