Search crews in the Town of Barre in Orleans County located Robert Arnett, 71, of Barre in a neighbor’s pond about 10:00a.m. on Sunday morning.
The State Police Dive Team was on location at the pond along with the Drone team, doing a preliminary walk through to check the water when they located Arnett’s body about 15 feet from shore.
According to Undersheriff Bourke, Arnett apparently stumbled or walked into the pond and was unable to get out. Arnett was reported missing about 10:00p.m. on Friday after he left his residence looking for his cat about 7:00p.m.
Arnett suffered from Alzheimer’s and may have become confused in the darkness on the path that was next door to his residence and slipped into the pond at the end of the path.
Today, over 175 firefighters from 21 fire companies along with law enforcement from the area assisted in the search.
Thank all of you involved in the search for Bob. Foerever grateful as I know the family is. My heart and prayers go out to his family, friends and all who lovd him. He indeed was a kind, gentle caring man. This family has endured a lot of heartache.
