WYOMING COUNTY/Sheldon/Barn destroyed in late night fire

A 30′ X 70′ barn was destroyed in a late night blaze in the Town of Sheldon on Thursday night.

Four fire companies responded to 812 Perry Road about 11:46p.m.

Upon arrival, crews located a working fire in the first barn, then a second smaller barn (16’x24′) also sustained major damage. The animals in the barn were able to escape uninjured, but a farm tractor, two lawn mowers, a four wheeler and multiple tools were destroyed in the fire.

The barns are owned by Tom and Alice Hyman and the estimated loss is $100,000.

The cause is not known at this time and the fire is under investigation.

Fire crews from Strykersville, Sheldon, North Java and Holland responded along with Wyoming County Emergency Management, Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department, Town of Sheldon Highway and NYSEG. Crews were on scene for about 3 hours.

No one was injured.
