Senior Addysen DiMatteo is keeping a tradition going.
She is organizing the 2nd Annual Dodgeball Tournament at Notre Dame High School on Saturday afternoon to help raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, who assisted Notre Dame Alumnus Jack Sutherland.
Last year, Jack’s sister Margaret organized the event, participating in the “Student of the Year” program raising as much money as possible in 7 weeks to help those affected by blood related cancers.
A month after Margaret was born, her 2- year old brother, Jack, was diagnosed with Leukemia. Thanks to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Jack is in his 16th year of remission.
DiMatteo says due to scheduling and timing she is unable to compete in the “Student of the Year” program with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, but will still raise funds to help fight blood related cancers.
“Everyone had so much fun last year that I thought its still such a great thing to do,” says DiMatteo.
“It’s still a chance to bring together the Notre Dame Community and everyone has been so closely affected, I know it has affected my family and cancer has affected a lot of families at Notre Dame.”
The cost to participate in the Dodgeball Tournament is $80 per team, each team has 8 players, so the cost is $10 per person.
12 teams are expected to compete on Saturday afternoon beginning at 4:00p.m. Games are about 10 minutes in length. There will be a winner’s bracket and a loser’s bracket, double elimination.
Anyone from the area can sign on to play and there are no age restrictions.
If a team is interested in signing up to compete in the tournament, they can sign up by emailing Addysen at addydimatteo14569@yahoo.com by Wednesday March 6, 2019.
