WYOMING COUNTY/Bliss woman facing charges after vehicle pursuit across multiple counties

Tami A. Unterburger, 23, of Bliss, faces felony charges across multiple counties following a vehicle pursuit in Wyoming County on February 23, 2019.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office advised the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office of a stolen vehicle which was possibly headed to Wyoming County.

Wyoming County Deputies located the vehicle on Route 362 at Route 78 in the Town of Wethersfield. A Wyoming County Deputy followed the vehicle to the intersection of Route 78 and Route 19 where another Wyoming County Deputy and a New York State Trooper had closed the intersection to perform a traffic stop with the stolen vehicle.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the vehicle drove off the roadway and around the patrol vehicles. The suspect vehicle fled northbound on Route 19 in the Town of Gainesville.

Warsaw Police Officers were then requested to set up spike strips on Route 19 at Martinville Road. After the stolen vehicle drove over the spike strips, it continued to accelerate before ultimately losing control and crashing on South Main Street in the area of the cemetery in the Village of Warsaw.

Tami Unterburger was the driver and only occupant of the vehicle. Unterburger was taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center for a medical evaluation and was released from the hospital several hours later.

Unterburger was arrested by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, Reckless Driving, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Third Degree.

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant of arrest on the following charges against Unterburger in the Town of Gainesville consisting of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree, Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree, Reckless Driving, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Third Degree.

Unterburger will also be charged with numerous traffic infractions throughout the towns of Wethersfield, Gainesville, and Warsaw.

Assisting the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office with this incident were New York State Police, Warsaw Police Department, Warsaw Fire Department, Medic 80, Ott’s Collision, NYSEG, and Warsaw Village DPW.
