The Center received the Robert A. The award was presented to the medical team at the center by Healogics, the largest wound care management company in the country.

“Its the staff that allows us to be an outstanding wound care center,” says Lisa Albanese, Program Director at the Wound Care Center at UMMC.

“Really it’s a two way street, the dedication also includes our patients who trust in us to deliver to them the care that they need to change their lives.”

Lowell Melvin has been coming to the Wound Care Center at UMMC since 2016. 1/3rd of his leg from the knee down was affected and he thought his leg was going to have to be amputated.

“Dr. Joe (Canzoneri) made the same promise all the other doctors made, but the big difference is he kept his promise,” says Melvin.

“For him to stand here right now is pretty much a miracle,” says Leigh Squiers, Melvin’s girlfriend.

“Back in October of 2016 we were pessimistic and combative, it is the way Dr. Joe took care of things along with the nurses that made this an invaluable experience for all of us.”

Ronald Drock is also a patient at the Wound Care Center.

“It was pretty scary when I first came in here,” says Drock.

“I had gangrene poisoning in my toe and I thought they were going to have to take my toe off. All I can do is say thank you very much for the job you done on me”

UMMC President Dan Ireland says the values that are followed at UMMC are care, quality, collaboration, compassion, foresight and respect.

“These values, I see all of them alive an well here.”

“It speaks so loud that is a team effort to help people heal from what are devastating wounds. You all truly touch our community in a very special way”

The Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center at UMMC is the only wound care center this side of WNY. It provides service to Genesee, Orleans, Wyoming, Niagara and Erie and Monroe counties.
