A woman was rescued after fire broke out in a residence in LeRoy Wednesday morning.
The woman in her mid 60s, suffered burns and was transported to UMMC. The extent of the burns she suffered today is unknown, she had burns from a previous incident.
The woman’s husband was able to get out of the home and then assist the fire chief in helping get her out. She was about 10 feet from the front door.
The call was for smoke in the residence at 9536 Bernd road in LeRoy about 6:00a.m. Fire crews from Stafford, Bergen and the City of Batavia along with Pavilion were requested to the scene to assist with a fire that was contained to the bedroom.
The husband was not injured and fire crews worked quickly to extinguish the blaze. The house is not habitable for today.
UPDATE: According to Chuck Dodson with Genesee County Emergency Management, the origin of the fire was the bed. Smoking in bed was the cause of the fire.
The patient suffered burns to her face and left side and was eventually transported to Strong Hospital for treatment.
