ORLEANS COUNTY/Motorcycle club sponsors Red Cross blood drive for Ridgeway firefighter

The Crusaders Motorcycle Club sponsored a Red Cross blood drive on Friday afternoon to help replenish the Red Cross blood bank after Ridgeway firefighter Glen Busch used 178 units of blood at Strong Hospital last September during a medical emergency.

Busch, 36, was rushed to Strong Hospital after passing out twice. Busch underwent several surgeries and it was discovered he was bleeding from his diaphragm and he had ruptured a splenic artery.

He also suffered a stroke, pulmonary embolism and a collapsed lung. In February, Busch was cleared to go back to work as a social welfare examiner.

Busch’s wife Valerie was at the blood drive on Friday and says he will slowly be working his way back into volunteering again at the Ridgeway Fire Department where the pair met in 2013.

On Friday, 47 donors showed up and 59 pints of blood were collected by the Red Cross.
