Tired of not being able to join an Ellementa Gathering group in NYC, and missing out on helpful discussion to share stories and experiences with other women about cannabis and CBD, Kelly March decided to apply and was approved to be a Gathering Leader for an Ellement group here in Batavia/WNY.
“I got involved with Ellementa because I started to become more of medical marijuana advocate,” says March.
“I am a medical marijuana card carrier and I have been prescribed medical marijuana for three years, almost since it was legal in NYS.”
Ellementa is available in 50 cities across the country.
March submitted her resume, application and went through a vetting process with a background check and two phone interviews with the owners.
March has Multiple Sclerosis, a disease that can affect your brain, spinal cord, and the optic nerves in your eyes. A person with MS can suffer vision problems, balance issues and have muscle control problems, along with other basic body function issues.
Not everyone feels the same effects of the disease.
“Not one drug, not one pharmaceutical, one herb can help anyone with MS the same way because MS patients are different, how we react with different things, our symptoms are different.”
Ellementa Gatherings include a program on topics ranging from cannabis consumption for chronic pain, different forms of consumption, use in caregiving, the effects of different strains, and microdosing.
According to their website, Ellementa is a global women’s cannabis wellness network. It is a women-owned company formed to connect women with trusted information, supportive community, and reliable resources focused on the health and wellness benefits of cannabis. They guide women on how to integrate cannabis legally, safely, and discreetly into their lives and introduce them to experts as well as brands with quality products and services to serve them.
At her third gathering this past week, March says she is seeing women coming into the gatherings with something different to discuss. The meetings started a few months ago.
“We’ve had cancer survivors, people struggling with cancer, people with anxiety and people with veterinarian issues on how to better work with their pets at home. This is all about them, it’s their gathering/discussion group.”
March has a lot of experience with herbs and is an amateur herbalist.
“Dealing with plants for me is very natural and that’s what cannabis is, its a plant that has been used for thousands of years, animals seek it out to help heal themselves.”
March says one of the problems with cannabis and CBD oil is the misleading way some products are being labeled and created currently.
“Consumers may not realize what they are getting, the potency of the CBD oil, its not regulated, its always buyer beware, pharmaceuticals included, gotta know your side effects.”
With March’s background as a librarian for 20 years she says she is all about getting the correct answer and citing your sources and knowing you are getting accurate information.
“You will always see a display of books at my meetings and information that can be obtained anywhere, not you gotta buy it to have it.”
March says the gatherings are private discussions and the cost is $10 to sit in on one. There is no buying or purchasing of anything. To sign up for the next Ellementa event online.

March says she was disappointed with the voting down of legalization in NYS yesterday, especially for the proposed changes to the medical cannabis community access.
“I’ve seen what patients can have on the west coast and other more progressive states and I want something better for myself and other patients.”
The next event is scheduled for July 9, 2019 at Robert Morris School at 80 Union street. The discussion group will start at 6:30p.m. in the multi-purpose room. Cash is also accepted at the door if you do not want to register online.
