Firefighters from Genesee, Livingston and Wyoming counties responded to a two alarm blaze at 6616 Junction road in Pavilion a little before 1:00a.m. on Friday morning.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, two occupants were inside at the time of the fire. The homeowner woke up to his house on fire. After calling 9-1-1, he was able to gather one of his cats and wake a friend from the couch and they were able to get out before flames engulfed most of the one story residence.
According to Pavilion Fire Chief Dewey Murrock, another cat was spotted running from the rear of the house into the woods.
Crews battled the blaze in a defensive mode when they arrived on scene as flames were shooting through the roof. Several firefighters were overcome from the heat of the fire and were assisted in a rehab area and are okay.
The home is a total loss and the Red Cross has been called to assist the homeowner.
Fire investigators are looking into the cause of the blaze.
