BATAVIA/New ARC Training Hub receives donation from Down Syndrome Parent Support Group

Check presentation on Walnut street on Monday

The ARC building at 64 Walnut street is undergoing a transformation.

In September of 2019, the GO TO Hub/Genesee Orleans Training an Opportunity Hub will open.

The renovation is necessary due to a change in service delivery throughout NYS.

“We had to look at I strategically and how should we change to continually meet the needs of the people we serve,” says Shelley Falitico, Director of Development with ARC.

The new HUB will be a certified community pre-vocational and day habilitation training site. The ARC owns the building.

The Down Syndrome Parent Support Group, who is celebrating their 30th year, decided to present a large donation to the HUB project on Walnut street.

“They do fundraisers and auctions and they came and they toured the location and they agreed to give us $10,000 towards the project,” says Falitico

The $150,000 project is being funded by donations and grants. $60,000 has been raised so far.

On Monday, the Down Syndrome Parent Support Group of Genesee County presented the ARC with a check for $10,000 to help complete the project.

“After much consideration and collaboration with the ARC, we decided to donate these funds,” says Dawn Fisher, President of Downs Syndrome Parent Support Group.

“Our board worked diligently to discuss what features would be necessary for this venture that will benefit many group members with Down Syndrome, as well as other individuals with special needs.”

Executive Director Donna Saskowski says working together with the Down Syndrome Parent Support Group is always delightful.

“I think this project is really going to add to the community and the people that we support everyday so we are very very thankful for the contribution,” says Saskowski.

Also contributing to the project so far, the Golisano Foundation, $25,000, Howard & Michael Ouriel, $9,649, Menzie Fundraiser, $4,266, Paul & Donna Saskowski, $2,000, National Fuel, $500, Aria Energy, $500, Musical instruments donation, value of $2,000, Anonymous, $500.
