ORLEANS COUNTY/Sheriff’s Office working to identify a body that was found in Lake Ontario

The Orleans County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of a body floating in Lake Ontario at Point Breeze this morning.

About 9:30a.m. Sunday, dispatchers received a call from fishermen at Point Breeze that that there was a body floating in the water just north of Point Breeze.

The Orleans County Marine Patrol Unit along with the State Police Marine Patrol unit located the body about 3 miles from shore.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the body is believed to have been in the water about 3-4 weeks and they are working to match any missing persons information in the area with the body that was located this morning.

The Sheriff’s Office says they are currently working with the NYS Parks Police in Niagara Falls on the investigation.

The body which was decomposed to some degree, was transported to the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office for further identification and an autopsy.
