Press release
Newstead, NY – On July 13, 2019, at approximately 12:00 p.m., Troopers were dispatched to a 911 complaint of a domestic disturbance that occurred on I-90 in the town of Newstead.
An investigation revealed that Jennifer L. Pladas, 42, of Sheridan, NY was a passenger in a vehicle and began yelling and striking the 64-year-old male who was driving the vehicle as they traveled eastbound, around mile marker 406.
While the driver pulled over, a 12-year-old in the vehicle attempted to dial 911, but Pladas bit the child before jumping out of the car and running into nearby woods, taking the phone with her. The driver continued east on I-90 and reported the incident to State Police at the Pembroke interchange.
A few hours later, Pladas was located near the scene of the incident, taken into custody, and transported to SP Buffalo. She was charged with Criminal Mischief 4th (Disabling Equipment to Prevent Request for Emergency Assistance) and Endangering the Welfare of a Child; both Class A Misdemeanors.
Pladas was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Newstead Court on July 17, 2019 at 3:00 p.m.
