A little after noon on Saturday, Wyoming County dispatchers received a call for a skydiver who went down in a cornfield south of the Perry Warsaw Airport.
According to Trooper John Szymkowiak, there were 2 or possibly three skydivers who were released from a plane at the Perry Warsaw Airport, they each came out of the plane separately and were not in tandem. After the skydivers came out of the plane, the pilot noticed one of the skydivers was veering off course away from the airplane and the pilot followed him in the airplane.
The pilot was able to pinpoint the area where the skydiver went down to dispatchers and then waited roadside for help to arrive.
Trooper Szymkowiak and a Perry Police Officer were the first on scene and located the subject about a quarter mile off the road in a cornfield off Soper road.
CPR was administered, however the male skydiver was pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time the State Police are investigating the incident with assistance from the FAA.
Rochester Skydivers operates out of the Perry Warsaw Airport.
According to Perry Fire Chief Dave Laraby, it is believed the chutes did open correctly and the skydiver went into a spinning and lost control of the parachute.
