GENESEE COUNTY/New Jersey woman suffers serious injuries in Sunday night accident in Elba

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two vehicle accident that occurred Sunday evening at Rt. 98 and Lockport road about 6:17p.m.

A 2009 Chevy Silverado traveling south on Rt. 98, collided with a 2017 Subaru WRX that was traveling west on Lockport road after the Subaru failed to stop at a stop sign. The pick up struck the passenger side of the Subaru and sent both vehicles off the west side of Rt. 98.

The Silverado overturned coming to rest against a guide rail. The Subaru struck the guide rail and then rotated several times before coming to rest in the eastbound lane of Lockport road.

The driver of the Subaru, Ashwin Mallikarjunaswamy, 28, of Rochester, was transported to Strong Hospital via ground ambulance with minor injuries and was issued tickets for failure to stop a stop sign and failure to yield the right of way at a stop sign.

Mallikarjunaswamy’s passenger, Nikitha Ganeshmurthy, 27, of Edison, NJ, was seriously injured and transported to Strong Hospital via Mercy Flight.

The driver of the pick up, Edward M. Buczek, 65, of Elba, was transported to Strong hospital via ambulance with minor injuries.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. At this time, drugs and alcohol are not a factor in the crash.

The crash is being investigated by Sgt. Andrew Hale, Agt., James Deihl, Investigator Chris Parker, Deputy Kyle Krzemien, Deputy Matthew Clor, Deputy Erik Andre, Deputy Brock Cummins and Deputy Jordan Alejandro. Assisting on scene were members of the Elba Fire Dept., Barre Fire Dept., Mercy EMS, National Grid and Dickinson’s Auto Service.
