GENESEE COUNTY/Rochester men found with 64 bags of crack cocaine during traffic stop in Batavia

Sgt. James Diehl conducted a traffic stop on Ellicott avenue near West Main street on Thursday afternoon and an investigation ensued looking into the transportation and possession of crack cocaine in and around the City of Batavia.

Walter H. Bennett, aka “Black”, 29, of VanAuker street, Rochester and Rayqaun K. Balkum, 19, of Atkinson St., Rochester were found to allegedly be in possession of 64 bags of crack cocaine after the investigation.

Bennett is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance 3rd, a class B felony, criminal possession of a controlled substance 4th, a class C felony, and criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th, a class A misdemeanor.

Bennett was arraigned in City Court this morning and jailed on $10,000 cash and $20,000 bond bail.

Rayqaun K. Balkum is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance 3rd, a class B felony, criminal possession of a controlled substance 4th, a class C felony, criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th, a class A misdemeanor, promoting prison contraband 1st, a class E felony, tampering with physical evidence, a class E felony and obstructing governmental administration 2nd, a class A misdemeanor.

Balkum was arraigned in City Court this morning and bail was set at $2,500 cash and $5,000 bond.

The Genesee County Local Drug Task Force was assisted by Batavia Police Officers, Genesee County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Genesee County District Attorney’s Office.
