BATAVIA/Holland Land Office Museum restoring cannons at front entrance

On Friday afternoon both pre civil war cannons that were cast by John Clark & Company in Richmond, VA were dismantled from their wheels and place on a flatbed.

The cannons, which were manufactured between 1828 and 1835, were purchased for a NYS militia group. It is believed they were never used in battle.

Each cannon weighs about 900 lbs and will be transported to Altoona, PA to be restored by Dave Seedenburg, who has done some work at National Parks and for Medina, NY and the US Army.

The cost for restoration is $20,000. The Cannon restoration fund is looking to raise about $10,000 to put towards the cost.

The cannon restoration will be complete in the spring.
