Charles E. Cooper, 36, of Lodi, NY, forcibly entered the home at 6735 Clinton street road at 9:06 pm Tuesday night with what appeared to be a a pistol. Cooper then threatened the homeowners and demanded money.
During the confrontation, the homeowner was able to retrieve a long gun of his own, firing one round which struck and incapacitated Cooper.
Law enforcement then arrived on scene and took Cooper into custody without further incident.
Cooper was treated at the scene then transported to Strong Hospital by Mercy Flight. He is currently in critical condition.
The investigation indicates that this was not a random act and Cooper specifically targeted the residence.
Cooper acted alone and criminal charges are pending.
There is no concern for the public safety of residents in the area.
