At around 5:58p.m. November 26, 2019, the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office took a complaint from an off duty Wyoming County Sheriff’s Deputy advising that he believed a hunter was lost in the woods.
The Deputy advised that a vehicle had been parked on Sodom Road in the Town of Wethersfield, in front of the Wyoming County Forest, since 10:00a.m. and no one had returned to the vehicle.
Several members of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office along with Emergency Management responded to the scene and were able to make contact with the vehicle owner over the phone and found he was indeed lost in the woods.
The 73 year old male from Lancaster, NY had been hunting all day and upon nightfall, became lost. He was not injured and was requested to shelter in place due to him lacking a flashlight or navigation tools for guidance.
ATV’s were utilized to search for the hunter and deputies were able to locate him deep inside of the forest at 8:07pm.
The hunter was returned to the roadway safely where he was checked by North Java Ambulance for precautionary measures and released.
Joseph E. Richardson, 34, of Pike, was arrested following a traffic stop on North Water Street in the Town of Pike on November 27, 2019. Wyoming County Sheriff’s Deputies were in the area investigating following multiple reports of explosions in the area over several days.
Richardson, who was known to deputies to not to have a driver’s license, was observed driving a 1999 Jeep Cherokee out of his driveway and then southbound down North Water Street. Deputies pulled up as Richardson pulled into a separate residential driveway. Richardson got out and attempted to flee into a residence, ignoring commands to stop, and then physically resisted while deputies were attempting to take Richardson into custody. Richardson, who had a non-driver identification card only with six active suspensions and an ignition interlock restriction, was charged with the following:
Resisting Arrest, Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, Operating Out Of Ignition Interlock Restriction, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Second Degree, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Third Degree, and Unlicensed Operator.
Richardson was arraigned in Wyoming County Court where bail was set in the amount of $10,000.00 cash bail or $10,000.00 partially secured bond. Richardson will appear in the Town of Pike Court on December 16, 2019.
The investigation into the overnight explosions determined that Richardson had been setting off fireworks in the area, and all fireworks were seized and destroyed.
Tyler J. Malik, 27, of Warsaw, is facing multiple felony charges from multiple incidents stemming from an October 15, 2019 traffic stop in the Town of Pike.
Malik was stopped by Sergeant Colin Reagan on South Division Street on Route 19 in the Town of Pike on October 15, 2019 at 10:52a.m. Malik was taken into custody after failing field sobriety testing, and he was also found to have a suspended driver’s license pending prosecution from a DWI in the Town of Java.
During the October incident, Malik was found to allegedly be in possession of multiple containers with crystal methamphetamine, marihuana, a digital scale, and multiple other pieces of paraphernalia. Officer Anthony Phillips of Warsaw Police Department, a NYS Certified Drug Recognition Expert, performed a drug influence evaluation with Malik and determined Malik to be impaired by multiple drug categories. Malik was charged with the following on October 15, 2019:
Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Driving While Ability Impaired by the Combined Influence of Drugs, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the First Degree (E Felony), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the Second Degree, Unlawful Possession of Marihuana in the Second Degree, Unsafe Tires, Visibility Distorted by Broken Glass, and Insufficient Turn Signal
Malik was released on October 15, 2019 with a court appearance scheduled at a later date in the Town of Pike.
Following further investigation, Wyoming County Sheriff’s Deputies obtained a Warrant of Arrest for Malik stemming from the October incident for an additional charge of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree (D Felony).
On November 25, 2019, Deputy Amy Nowak and Investigator Aaron Anderson responded to Prospect Street in the Village of Warsaw to attempt and locate Malik at a residence. Malik was located outside walking on Prospect Street.
Deputy Nowak and Investigator Anderson approached Malik and advised him of the warrant. Malik attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly apprehended. Malik proceeded to fight with Deputy Nowak and Investigator Anderson until Warsaw Police Officer Timothy McGinnis arrived on scene to assist. Malik was then successfully taken into custody.
Both Deputy Nowak and Investigator Anderson were injured during the altercation. A subsequent search of Malik found him to allegedly be in possession of multiple items including (4) glassine envelopes containing crystal methamphetamine, (4) methamphetamine pipes, (2) hydrocodone pills, (2) alprazolam pills, (1) clonazepam pill, (1) buprenorphine pill, (4) adderall pills, and (1) digital scale with white residue on it.
On November 25, 2019, Malik was arraigned on the Warrant of Arrest in the Town of Warsaw Court, and he was committed to the Wyoming County Jail in lieu of $20,000.00 cash bail or $40,000.00 bond. Malik was scheduled to return to the Town of Pike Court on the following date for further proceedings.
On November 26, 2019, Malik was additionally charged regarding the physical altercation with deputies in the Village of Warsaw as follows:
Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree (C Felony), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree (D Felony), Assault in the Second Degree (D Violent Felony), Criminal Possession of Methamphetamine Manufacturing Material in the Second Degree, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree (5 counts), and Resisting Arrest
Malik was arraigned in the Village of Warsaw regarding the above charges, and he was committed to the Wyoming County Jail in lieu of an additional $20,000.00 cash bail or $40,000.00 bond. Malik is scheduled for further court action in the Village of Warsaw Court on December 9, 2019.
On November 24, 2019, Gerald Sullivan, 25, of Delevan, NY, was arrested by deputies from the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office on an active bench warrant.
Sullivan failed to appear in the Village of Arcade Court on charges related to a DWAI/Drugs arrest conducted by the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department on June 28, 2019.
Sullivan was transported to the Town of Java Court where he was arraigned on the warrant and remanded to the Wyoming County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash or $5,000 bond.
Following the arraignment, he was transported to the Wyoming County Jail without incident. Sullivan is scheduled to return to the Village of Arcade Court on December 12, 2019 for further proceedings.
On November 22, 2019, Deputies from the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office along with members of the Wyoming County Probation Department conducted a warrant arrest of Steven Allen, 37, of Silver Springs.
Allen was located at an address in the Village of Silver Springs and taken into custody without incident. He was then transported to the Wyoming County Jail where he was held, awaiting further proceedings in Wyoming County Court.
On November 22, 2019, Deputies from the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kevin Daniels, 37, of Cortland, NY, on an outstanding Superior Court Warrant.
Daniels was initially taken into custody by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department following an investigation at his residence in Cortland County. Deputies from Courtland County then turned him over to deputies from the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department without issue.
Daniels was transported to the Wyoming County Jail where he was held, awaiting further proceedings in Wyoming County Court.
