BATAVIA/Neighbors keep a tradition alive on Redfield Parkway

Every day after Thanksgiving, a crew of about 8-10 neighbors on Redfield Parkway gather to continue a tradition that has been ongoing since 1951.

Nick Zinni and his wife Ellen have been in charge of ordering and setting up delivery of the Christmas trees to neighbors on Redfield Parkway for over 12 years.

This year, 53 balsam furs, about 6 feet in height, were purchased by Redfield residents from Pudgie’s Lawn and Garden Center on West Main street.

Every year, with the help of Gordy and Cindy Smith, the trees are picked up and delivered to each resident who ordered one for the holiday season.

The past few years, Robert and Thomas Kubiniec, along with their dad Mike and mom Sharon, have been in charge of pounding in the fence posts that hold up each tree. This year their brother Austin also participated.

A bamboo pole is used for measuring the exact area to put the post in each lawn.

The yearly tradition that was started by Harold Gouinlock, a resident of the street in the 50’s who owned a Christmas tree farm in Attica and supplied the street with trees each year, continues on with the help of neighborhood volunteers and Pudgie’s Lawn and Garden Center.
