GENESEE COUNTY/Town of Batavia accepts land donation to create new access to the Tonawanda creek

At Wednesday night’s Regular Batavia Town Board meeting, the Board voted unanimously to accept a piece of property along Rt. 5 as a donation to the Town of Batavia.

The small piece of land at 2633 West Main street road will be included in the Town’s Parks Program. A second access point will be created for entry to the Tonawanda Creek for kayakers, canoers, tubers and rafters who want to float down stream and have a place to get out and not have to paddle all the way back to Kiwanis Park.

The land was donated to the Town by David R. Everett and Mark P. Wagner.

The Batavia Republican Committee also gave $5,000 towards the project, which Supervisor Greg Post says the Town has been working on for years.

“The project is at no expense to the taxpayer,” says Post.

“The owners cleaned it up a bit, its perfectly positioned to have access to deep water prior to the dam. Just blessed to have generous members of the community.”
