GENESEE COUNTY/Names released in fatal one vehicle high speed crash/pursuit

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a one vehicle fatal accident that occurred at 10616 Rt. 98 in the Village of Alexander about 4:20p.m. Monday afternoon.

Upon arrival, patrols observed a white 2019 Chrysler 300 bearing a Pennsylvania license plate into a tree. It was determined that there were 3 occupants inside the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, Cleveland D. Johnson, 22, of Lauderdale Lakes, FL, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second occupant, Clyde A Frazier, 24, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, was transported to Strong Hospital via Mercy Flight with serious injuries. The third occupant, was Desarae N. Steriotis, 33, of Philadelphia, PA. She was transported to ECMC via Mercy Flight with serious injuries also.

The 2019 Chrysler was first encountered by Warsaw Police on Rt. 19. The Warsaw officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop with the vehicle for speeding. As the officer approached, the Chrysler fled the scene. A pursuit ensued and was terminated shortly after when the Warsaw officer lost sight of the vehicle.

The 2019 Chrysler was later spotted traveling north on Rt. 98 through the Village of Attica. Attica Police attempted to stop the vehicle, however it failed to pull over and fled once more, leading Attica Police on a pursuit headed north on Rt. 98 into Genesee County.

Due to the high rate of speed, Attica Police terminated the pursuit. As Attica patrols continued north on Rt. 98, they came upon the vehicle into a tree in the Village of Alexander.

At this time the crash is under investigation as is the reason why the occupants of the vehicle were fleeing police.

Assisting at the scene were members of the Alexander Fire Department, Attica Fire Department, Bethany Fire Department, Mercy EMS, Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office, Warsaw Police, Attica Police and the NYS Police.
