GENESEE COUNTY/Akron woman succumbs to her injuries in morning accident in East Pembroke

Following a two vehicle accident that occurred on Rt. 5 in East Pembroke on Tuesday morning, The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office received notification that the driver of the 2015 Nissan SUV, Patricia L. Dzienciol, 50, of Akron, succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident.

Dzienciol was pronounced dead while at ECMC.

According to a Sheriff Dept. accident report, Kathleen A. Swanekamp, 84, of Tonawanda , was traveling in a 1997 Mercury four door, eastbound on Rt. 5, when she failed to keep right, crossing into the westbound lane, striking a 2015 Nissan SUV, being operated by Patricia L. Dzienciol, 50, of Akron.

The 1997 Mercury rotated counterclockwise coming to rest facing north in the eastbound lane. The Nissan SUV traveled off the north shoulder of the road, striking a mailbox and then down an embankment where it overturned.

Both drivers were injured and transported to trauma centers. Two passengers in the 1997 Mercury, William J. Danek, 26, and Daniel Cordner, 42, were also injured and transported to the hospital by ground ambulance.
Swanekamp was issued tickets for speed not reasonable and prudent and failure to drive on the right side of the road.
