WYOMING COUNTY/Apartment fire in Perry caused by an overheated extension cord

An overheated extension cord connected to an electric heater caused an apartment fire at 90 Covington street in the Village of Perry on February 21, 2020 at 5:24p.m.

There were 10 apartments in the building and all tenants were evacuated during the fire. The blaze was contained to the apartment of origin on the first floor and the tenants were allowed back inside their apartments after the fire was extinguished.

No one was injured in the fire.

The estimated loss is $5,000.

Fire crews from Perry, Perry Center, Castile, Warsaw and Silver Springs were on location for about 2.5 hours. Also assisting on scene, Wyoming County Emergency Services, Perry Police and Perry DPW.

The apartment building is owned by Home One Properties/Nicolas and Cindy Hendrickson.
