The Genesee County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a two vehicle motor vehicle accident that occurred at Rt. 63 and Rt. 246 in the Town of Pavilion on Saturday evening.
Upon arrival at 6:57p.m., patrols identified a red 2007 Hyundai Azera that was traveling north on Rt. 246, operated by Leah R. Appleton, 18, of Hilton, with a front seat passenger, Carlos J. Diaz, 19, of Brockport. A second vehicle, a silver 2019 Ford Expedition, traveling northwest on Rt. 63, being operated by Irving J. Denis, 32, of NY,NY along with his passenger, Reginald Denis, 41, of NY,NY.
According to investigators, the 2007 Hyundai was approaching the stop sign on Rt. 246 at Rt. 63 and failed to yield to cross traffic on Rt. 63 and proceeded into the intersection and was struck by the 2019 Expedition on the passenger side .
The impact caused the Hyundai off the north shoulder of Rt. 63 and overturn onto its roof before coming to rest. The Expedition continued on Rt. 63 before coming to rest in the southeast lane of travel.
Both Appleton and Diaz were transported to Strong Hospital, Appleton via Mercy Flight and Diaz via ground ambulance. Both sustained minor injuries.
The two male occupants of the Expedition were treated at the scene and released by Mercy EMS.
The crash is being investigated by Sgt. Andrew Hale, Deputy Erik Andre, Deputy Jonathan Dimmig and members of the Genesee County Crash Management Team. Assisting at the scene were the Pavilion Fire Department and Mercy EMS.
