GENESEE COUNTY/Pembroke/Faculty and staff greet students in front of their homes

Pembroke teachers, staff, bus drivers, aids, fire departments and law enforcement spent three hours traveling around the Pembroke School district in a long convoy of vehicles to say hello to their students on Friday afternoon.

The event was organized by Greg Kinal, President of the Pembroke Teachers Organization. Kinal says he is making due with electronically teaching his students, but he says many teachers are starting to go a little stir crazy and wanted to get out in their vehicles and say hello to their students.

Many decorated their vehicles, made signs, honked their horns and waved to kids and their families as they passed through.

A lot of participants also brought canned goods and packaged food to donate to the Corfu Food Pantry that is currently a bit low on food. High School Nurse Debbie Kern organized the food drive and was overwhelmed by all that was donated.

“You never know how something is going to turn out, not surprised, Pembroke always does it right,” says Kern.
