On April 4th, the CDC released updated recommendations that people wear cloth face covers if they must be out in public, especially in areas where community transmission of COVID-19 is occurring, including Wyoming County and Western New York. This change was prompted by new research on the number of people with mild or no symptoms, who are COVID-19 infected and spread illness in the community.

Dr. Greg Collins, Wyoming County Commissioner of Health reminds all residents: “To slow the spread, people should stay home as much as possible, go out only when necessary, maintain social distance, practice good hand hygiene and avoid touching your face. Cloth face coverings made at home can be used as an additional, voluntary public health measure. The cloth face coverings recommended by the CDC are not surgical masks or N-95 respirators. Those are critical supplies that must continue to be reserved for healthcare workers and other medical first responders.”
