GENESEE COUNTY/Sheriff’s Office investigating a serious accident in Pembroke

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a serious two vehicle accident that occurred at Rt. 5 and 77 in Pembroke about 3:40a.m. Monday morning.

Pembroke and Indian Falls Fire, along with three ambulances, responded to the scene to assist.

Firefighters had to extricate the unconscious male driver of a box truck after it failed to yield to a red light as it traveled south on Rt. 77. The truck collided with a National Grid vehicle that was traveling east on Rt. 5. The driver of the box truck was transported to ECMC via ambulance as Mercy Flight was unable to fly due to weather.

A female passenger in the box truck suffered minor injuries and was out and walking around according to Pembroke Fire. She was transported to ECMC.

The male driver of the National Grid truck was transported to UMMC in Batavia with a shoulder injury.

UPDATE:

The 2011 Freightliner box truck was being operated by Kimaly Satchel-el, 33, of Lafayette Ave., Syracuse, NY. The 2014 Freightliner utility truck was being operated by Luis H. Welch, 32, of West Main St., LeRoy, NY.

Satchel-el failed to yield to the right of way at the intersection and struck the 2014 utility truck. After impact, the southbound 2011 box truck rotated counterclockwise and came to rest facing north off of the north shoulder of Rt. 5.

The 2014 utility truck traveled off the southeast corner of the intersection coming to rest facing southeast.

Satchel-el was extricated from the box truck by fire personnel. He sustained multiple injuries and was transported by Mercy EMS to ECMC. His front seat passenger, Candace R. Keith, 21, of Brooklyn, NY, was also transported to ECMC with physical injuries.

Welch was transported to UMMC with minor injuries.

Members of the Pembroke, Indian Falls and East Pembroke Volunteer Fire Departments along with Mercy EMS assisted at the scene.

The investigation is continuing and is being conducted by Deputy Nicholas Chamoun and the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office Crash Management members Sgt. Jason Saile and Deputy Kyle Krzemein.
