WYOMING COUNTY/COVID-19 Update/Two positive cases reported/Phase one reopening to start on Friday

PRESS RELEASE May 11, 2020 @ 2:00 p.m.

Chairman of the Wyoming County Board of Supervisors, Jerry L. Davis, reports:

As of earlier today, Monday, May 11, the Wyoming County Health Department reports seventy-four (74) lab-confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 among Wyoming County residents. This is an increase of two (2) case from Friday, May 8th.

Northwest (*Attica, Bennington, Orangeville, Sheldon) 26 positive cases, 22 recoveries.

Southwest (Arcade, Eagle, Java, Wethersfield) 12 positive cases, 12 recoveries.

Southeast (Castile, Gainesville, Genesee Falls, Pike) 15 positive cases, 15 recoveries.

Northeast (Covington, Middlebury, Perry, Warsaw) 21 positive cases, 12 recoveries, 5 deaths.

TOTAL – 74 positive cases, 61 recoveries, 5 deaths

(*Two (2) of the cases reported in the Northwest Quadrant are attributed to the Attica Correctional Facility)

Un-PAUSING and Reopening New York State – Last week, Governor Cuomo identified seven requirements that each of the state’s 10 regions must meet before restrictions meant to slow the virus’s spread could be eased in those areas.

A 14-day decline in hospitalizations, or fewer than 15 a day. 

A 14-day decline in virus-related hospital deaths, or fewer than five a day. 

A steady rate of new hospitalizations below two per 100,000 residents a day. 

A hospital-bed vacancy rate of at least 30 percent. 

An availability rate for intensive care unit beds of at least 30 percent. 

At least 30 virus tests per 1,000 residents conducted a month. 

At least 30 working contact tracers per 100,000 residents.

This morning, Governor Cuomo was in Rochester and announced the Finger Lakes which includes Wyoming County, Southern Tier and Mohawk Valley regions will be the first to begin the process of reopening on Friday, May 15, 2020 with a phased in approach as outlined in the state’s “NY Forward Reopening” Plan.
