BATAVIA/Four people exposed to a rabid cat

The Genesee County Sheriff Department responded to an incident at Country Meadows mobile home park at 5121 Clinton street road last week, involving a rabid cat.

The Sheriff’s Office says there were four possible exposures and emergency testing was conducted over the holiday weekend.  The results were positive and treatment started immediately.

According to a family member, her daughter in- law was taking out the dog and noticed the cat, when she went to take the dog back inside, the dog lunged at the cat, the cat then attacked the woman.

The family member says her son was then attacked by the cat as he was trying to get it off of his wife. The son then trapped the cat with a rake until Deputies and Animal Control responded.

Both the son and his wife have started treatment after the incident occurred last week.

There is a feral cat issue in the area. A volunteer group has been assisting with influx of cats.
