BATAVIA/Man shows up in hotel lobby with gunshot wound to the chest

The City of Batavia Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the area of the Days Inn and Noonan drive about 9:30p.m. on Wednesday night.

Police say the male subject showed up in the lobby of the hotel with a gunshot wound to the chest. The hotel desk clerk called 911 and police and EMS responded to the scene.

A male victim was loaded into a Mercy EMS ambulance and transported to the Mercy Flight hanger where he was transported to Strong hospital.

Family members say the victim was shot in the lung and will be hospitalized for at least a week. The victim was conscious and alert as he was being loaded into the ambulance.

According to Chief Shawn Heubusch, both subjects, the victim and the suspect, know each other. Both subjects, who are area residents, met near the the Days Inn. Police are currently looking for a person of interest and a vehicle. Both subjects are known to police.

Police feel they have a suspect identified and are actively looking for that suspect. They say this is a targeted crime and not a random incident. Police believe a hand gun was used.

Noonan Drive near the Days Inn is currently closed off to traffic as police complete their investigation.
