After 26 years and 364 days as County Manager, Jay Gsell is retiring.
Gsell has led Genesee County through so many changes since taking office in 1993. He will walk out the doors of the old county court house at Rt. 5 and 63 on August 14th.
After being presented with a Proclamation by the Genesee County Legislature, Gsell said that his years working here were about team work and collaboration. Gsell has worked with 39 different legislators, 6 different legislative chairs and 6 city managers during his time in Genesee County.
During resolutions, the Legislature appointed Matthew Landers, Assistant County Manager, to the position of County Manager at a salary of $121,000+longevity. He will start as County Manager on August 15th.
Landers has been Assistant County Manager for six years.
He was born and raised in Genesee County and graduated from Elba High School in 1995. He earned his Bachelors in Accounting and his Masters in Public Administration at SUNY Brockport. He and his wife Melissa, and their two children, Benjamin, 10, and Kaitlyn, 14, reside in Batavia.
