WYOMING COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT/Akron woman found passed out behind the wheel

Shannon Kern, 51, of Akron, was arrested for DWI and aggravated DWI following a welfare check at 3939 Route 98 in the Town of Sheldon.

Kern was allegedly found passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle while parked on private property in the front yard of 3939 Route 98, approximately 1300 feet off the roadway.

The homeowner located the vehicle and called 911 for assistance.

North Java Ambulance and the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to check on Kern’s welfare.

According to deputies, Kern performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was charged with DWI and aggravated DWI/driving with a BAC of .18% or more.

She is scheduled to appear in Sheldon Court at a later date in August.

Kern was processed at the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office and released to a family member.

Matthew L. Mercado, 37, of Buffalo was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation following a traffic stop on Route 20A in the Town of Sheldon on August 1, 2020.

Mercado was observed operating a vehicle with three active revocations on his license.

He is charged with aggravated unlicensed operation 2nd and 3rd degree and was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Sheldon Court for a later date.

A valid passenger in the vehicle was able to operate the vehicle from the scene.
