WYOMING COUNTY/Two pole barn fires within two hours

Fire Departments in the west side of the county were busy late Thursday afternoon.

At 4:14p.m., a barn fire was reported at 6399 Northwoods road in the Town of Arcade. Fire companies from Arcade, Strykersville, Sheldon, North Java, Yorkshire and Chaffee Sardinia responded along with Wyoming County Emergency Management.

Crews were on scene for about 2.5 hours to put out a fire inside a 30’x40′ pole barn that was used for storage. The structure suffered minor damage, but some contents were destroyed.

The building is owned by Ronald Horrigan.

Estimated loss is $10,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

At 6:01p.m. a barn fire was reported at 2389 Almeter road in the Town of Sheldon.

Fire crews from North Java, Strykersville and Varysburg responded along with Wyoming County Emergency Management and the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department.

Departments were on scene for about 2.5 hours to put out a fire inside a 34’x100′ pole barn used for storage, farm equipment and repairs. Portions of the building sustained heavy damage along with the contents.

The fire was caused by an overheated light fixture and is accidental in nature, estimated loss is $40,000 .

The building is owned by Jason and April Zehler.
