Assistant County Manager Matthew Landers was sworn in as County Manager on Saturday morning, replacing long time County Manager Jay Gsell who served the county for 27 years. Gsell officially retired on Friday after his last day on the job.
The Legislature appointed Matthew Landers to the position of County Manager last month, at a salary of $121,000+longevity.
Landers has been Assistant County Manager for six years.
He brings nearly ten years of municipal experience beginning with a three year stint as Director of Real Property Tax Services before a promotion to Deputy Treasurer and in 2014 Assistant County Manager. Landers is an active member of Kiwanis Club, a Leadership Genesee graduate and is a certified public accountant.
Landers was born and raised in Genesee County and graduated from Elba High School in 1995. He earned his Bachelors in Accounting and his Masters in Public Administration at SUNY Brockport. He and his wife Melissa, and their two children, Benjamin, 10, and Kaitlyn, 14, reside in Batavia.
Tammi Ferringer was also sworn in as the new Assistant County Manager effective August 15, 2020.
Ferringer is a lifelong resident of Genesee County and brings 15 years of experience in county government to her new role as Assistant County Manager.
She began her County career in 2005 as Senior Financial Clerk-Typist at the Genesee County Health Department and then worked her way through the ranks to Administrative Officer/Budget Officer. In 2014, Ferringer transitioned to the Department of Social Services, serving as Director of Fiscal Operations and Child Support. In 2019, she was appointed as the County’s Compliance Officer.
Ferringer is a graduate of Batavia High School. She holds an Associate’s degree in Business Administration from Genesee Community College and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Finance from SUNY Brockport.
She resides in the Town of Batavia and is the proud parent of her two children, Jacelyn 20 and Caleb 13.
