“We still have no answers,” says daughter Kimberly Reed.

Reed’s mother, Sue, was struck by a pick up truck while riding her bicycle at East Main Street and Vine Street on August 13, 2020 between 8-8:30a.m.

“She was crossing in the crosswalk at Vine and East Main, going towards the Manor House, the vehicle was traveling on East Main in the same direction and then turned left onto Vine and struck her in the crosswalk.”

Sue,70, just started riding her bike, trying to stay in shape. Always being physically fit, dancing has been her thing.

“I just know someone had to see something as she sat on the side of the road basically bleeding out for almost twenty minutes. She saw the man who hit her. He got out, looked at her, and got back in the vehicle then left her laying there.”

Kimberly says the man did say something, but she says her mom can’t remember, only that he was tall, skinny, blonde, driving a big truck with large tires and a chrome grill.

Sue Reed is now home from the hospital. She is healing, but has developed more issues with a lung due to the impact of the accident.

“We won’t know the severity of the injury until Friday. I just see all these hit and runs in our community and it is becoming an issue, unfortunately my mom is a victim of human indecency.”

Kimberly says her mom spent her career helping others.

Sue worked as a nurse for 20 years, obtaining her degree while battling cancer. She lost her husband Robin Reed, the love of her life, in 1999 after a terrible tractor accident. For the last seven years, Sue has volunteered at Crossroads House, working non stop on their yearly basket raffle.

“She has held the hands of so many of the community’s loved ones as they were leaving this world. She would never turn her back on anyone and she does not deserve to be left like this. People can’t keep getting away with leaving the scene, it’s becoming a horrible pattern.”

Anyone who was in the area at that time and observed the accident is asked to contact Officer Peter Post at 585-345-6350, the confidential tip line at 585-345-6370 or online at http://www.batavianewyork.com/police-department/webforms/report-suspicious-drug-or-criminal-activity.

  1. So sorry to read this. Glad you are on the mend, Sue. I thought this hit & run was a Las Vegas thing. Every day/night someone is hit, injured & they don’t stop. What kind of a world do we live in? I really hope hey find him. Do people living around there have ring doorbells? A lot of people are identified
    From those security cameras.

  2. Sue: much love and prayers for your healing. Always remember our good times . Love Nancy Mager

So very sorry to hear about this ….. I’m going to keep a watch out for a big truck that sits up high with a blonde hair guy in it . I’m a very observant person with everything. My daughter lives on Vine Street and I’m at her her house quite a bit visiting my grandkids. My car was hit while parked out in front of my daughters and the person took off . So yes I’m very alert of my surroundings now . And I’m hoping someone finds this guy because this is a life we’re talking about and to many accidents are left with no answers . Sending prayers for a quick recovery to you . And thank you for your years of Nursing and helping people feel better ….
