ORLEANS COUNTY/13 year old accused of taking a DPW vehicle, striking a pole, then dumping the vehicle in a hedgerow

A 13 year old boy allegedly took a DPW vehicle from the Orleans County Department of Public Works at 225 West Academy Street in Albion on Thursday morning, Orleans County Sheriff Christopher Bourke says.

The Orleans County Sheriff’s Office was able to locate the 13 year old male with the public’s assistance on Friday.

“We were able to locate the 13 year old male, and solve this case,” says Bourke.

According to Bourke, the young teen rode his bike to the County DPW parking lot on West Academy street and went through several vehicles before finding the keys in a County DPW pickup truck.

The subject then loaded his bike into the truck and drove off.

Soon after that, the subject was driving around in the Hoag Library parking lot, allegedly striking and breaking a light pole. The teen then left the scene in the pick up truck.

The truck was recovered by Sheriff’s deputies early last evening in a hedgerow in a field off of Phipps road. The teen was then located after that. Sheriff’s Investigators will be following up in the case on Monday with further action.
