BATAVIA/Restored Cannons get a big welcome home at the Holland Land Office Museum

The Holland Land Office Museum held an official Cannon Welcoming Home Celebration on Monday morning.

The two cannons, which have been gone from the museum’s front porch since November of 2019, are now back to their familiar spot after a long absence due to being restored.

Seed Artillery out of Altoona, Pa., spent many months carefully restoring the guns to their former glory as they would have looked in the early 19th century. The work included rebuilding of the carriage with all new metalwork and refurbishing the cannon barrels.

Each cannon weighs about 2200lbs, and with the help of donations to the Holland Land Office Museum Cannon Restoration Fund, the project has now been completed with about $7,600 being raised out of the $10,000 goal.

The cannons were welcomed home in style with the help of a gunnery crew from the Genesee County Militia reenactor group.

If anyone would like to donate to the Cannon Restoration Fund they still can. Here is the address link below. http://hollandlandoffice.com/CannonRestorationCampaign.aspx
