GENESEE COUNTY/Pair from Rochester busted in convenient store “smash and grab” incidents

Two Rochester residents have been arrested following two “smash and grab” incidents early this morning.

On September 16, 2020, at about 2:12.a.m., two suspects attempted to gain entry to the Kwik Fill gas station in LeRoy, located at 7010 West Main street road, by throwing two large rocks through the front glass door. The suspects then allegedly fled the scene after not being able to make entry.

Then at 2:27a.m., the same two suspects allegedly made entry to the Crosby’s gas station/convenient store located at 5267 Clinton street road in Batavia, by throwing a large paver stone through the front glass door.

The suspects then entered the store and were in the process of stealing approximately $3,500 worth of cigarettes, when Sheriff’s Office patrol arrived to check on the business and then confronted the two suspects inside the store.

The suspects then fled the scene out an alternate entrance into a wooded area behind the store. They were apprehended shortly thereafter.

While inside the store, the suspects are alleged to have caused over $1,500 in damage.

Jennifer D. Abrams, 29, of Locust St. and Tarus O. Fluitt, 47, no known address, both of Rochester, are each charged with burglary 3rd, a felony, criminal mischief 2nd, a felony, attempted burglary 3rd, a felony, criminal mischief 3rd, a felony and conspiracy 5th, two counts, a misdemeanor.

Fluitt was additionally charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th, a misdemeanor.

Abrams was arraigned in Genesee County Court by Judge Zambito and remanded to the jail in lieu of $10,000 cash/$20,000 bond.

Fluitt remains in custody and is awaiting arraignment.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate this incident as well as similar incidents occurring within recent weeks.

The incident is being investigated by Deputy Nicholas Chamoun, Deputy David Moore, Deputy Ryan Young, Deputy Jordan Alejandro, Inv. Christopher Parker and Chief Deputy Joseph Graff.

Assisting in the incident: Members of the NYS Police, Batavia Police Department, LeRoy Police Department, NYS DEC and other members of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.
