Press release
On September 17, 2020, Lynn Michael Hall appeared for sentencing in Wyoming County Court before the Hon. Michael M. Mohun with District Attorney Donald O’Geen appearing on behalf of the People and James Napier appearing on behalf of Mr. Hall.
Mr. Hall had previously entered into a plea bargain where he pled guilty to Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a Class B violent felony, by admitting to attempting to murder Sheriff Gregory Rudolph on December 11, 2018. The agreed upon sentencing range was for 20-25 years in prison followed by a period of Post Release Supervision between 2 ½ to 5 years.
After listening to statements from Sheriff Greg Rudolph, District Attorney Donald O’Geen and the defense Judge Mohun sentenced Mr. Hall to a 25 year determinate sentence followed by a period of post release supervision of 5 years.
“Sheriff Rudolph and his family will forever be impacted by the actions of Mr. Hall. Every officer knows that on any given day they are at risk and for that all of us should be forever grateful for their service. I commend Sheriff Rudolph for continuing to serve his community. That service comes at a cost and that can never be repaid. Law enforcement officers can be victims and their trauma is no different than anyone elses. There are many in today’s world that have forgotten how important the men and women of law enforcement are to each and every one us. The sentence imposed today sends a strong message that violence in any form will not be tolerated and those who commit violence against law enforcement will be held accountable,” said District Attorney Donald O’Geen.
