WYOMING COUNTY/Day pleads guilty to course of sexual conduct against a child

Press release

On Thursday, September 16, 2020, Lonnie G. Day, 74, of Nunda, appeared in Wyoming County Court before the Hon. Michael M. Mohun with his defense attorney Brian Degnan and Assistant District Attorney Chelsie Hamilton representing the People.

During the court appearance, Day pleaded guilty to course of sexual conduct against a child in the first degree, a class B violent felony, with an agreed upon determinate sentence of 12 years in prison followed by post-release supervision of 20 years.

Day will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison. Day waived his right to appeal.

Sentencing is set for November 5, 2020 at 11:30 a.m.

Day is being held on $150,000 cash bail, $500,000 bond or $750,000 partially secured bond in the Wyoming County Jail.

These charges stem from sexual acts committed against a child victim, when that victim was between the ages of 4 and 12 years old. The acts occurred between 2008 and 2017. He was arrested on August 7, 2020.

“I want to commend Inv. Jacob Opala of the New York State Police for his swift investigation which resulted in being able to bring this case to a just resolution. Given the defendant’s age this result is the equivalent of a life sentence so I am confident he will not be able to harm anymore children,” said District Attorney Donald O’Geen.
