Communities throughout the country held a vigil for Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Saturday evening at 8:00p.m. around local courthouses.
A group in LeRoy gathered around the Women’s Suffrage sign at the Village Hall to honor Justice Ginsburg after she passed away on Friday evening. The Women’s Suffrage sign recognizes the first woman in LeRoy who voted in an election in 1920, Delia Phillips, after the 19th amendment guaranteed women’s right to vote.
LeRoy Historian Lynne Belluscio spoke about the importance of this time in history and the importance of Justice Ginsburg’s dedication to persist and not let others down.
“We let her carry our burden of hope and aspirations because we knew she would not submit,” says Belluscio.
Organizer Anna Sorensen says “I think its our turn, we need to finish her fight and keep the word out there that everyone is equal, no matter their religion, their color, their sexuality, their race, anything.”
