GENESEE COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT/Batavia man accused of attempting to close out a family member’s investment account and take the money

Thomas E. Ditzel, 65, of Belvedere Lane, Batavia, is charged with attempted grand larceny 3rd, a felony, after in investigation into misappropriation of funds as a Power of Attorney.

Ditzel allegedly attempted to take almost $17,000 by closing the investment account of a family member, then having the check sent to an address where he planned to allegedly retrieve it. Another family member, however intercepted the check.

The incident occurred on December 24, 2018.

According to Investigator Christopher Parker, the duties of a a Power of Attorney, amongst others, is that the Power of Attorney must act in the principal’s best interest rather than their own.

Ditzel will appear in City Court for arraignment on November 17, 2020 at 9:00a.m.

Ana M. Uribe, 27, of Willow St. Batavia, is charged with grand larceny 4th, a class E felony, and offering a false instrument for filing 1st, also a class E felony, after allegedly not reporting income that she was earning and then also filing an application that is used to determine eligibility for SNAP benefits without said income.

As a result, Uribe received $3,218 in SNAP benefits that she was not entitled to .

Uribe was arraigned in Genesee County Court on October 14, 2020. The incident occurred on May 1, 2019.

The investigation was conducted by the Genesee County Department of Social Services Investigator Dakota Nicholson.

Ifrah H. Armstrong, 41, of Bank St., Batavia, is charged with grand larceny 3rd, a class D felony and four counts of offering a false instrument for filing 1st, a class E felony, after allegedly not reporting income that she was earning and then also filing an application that is used to determine eligibility for SNAP benefits without said income.

The incident occurred on August 1, 2017.

As a result, Armstrong received $5,208 in SNAP benefits that she was not entitled to.

Armstrong was arraigned in Genesee County Court on October 13, 2020 at 1:00p.m.

The investigation was conducted by the Genesee County Department of Social Services Investigator Dakota Nicholson.
