WYOMING COUNTY/Young child alerts family to fire at a home in Pike

The Red Cross is assisting a family of three in the Town of Pike today, after an early morning fire at their home at 34 Telegraph road.

10 fire companies responded to the blaze about 3:56a.m.this morning.

According to Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services, the young son of Nathan Lyke and Debbie Charleston woke up to the smell of smoke and went downstairs to awaken his parents. All three were able to escape the fire without injury, along with four cats and three dogs.

The estimated loss in the blaze is $75,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire crews from Pike, Bliss, Castile, Gainesville, Perry, Silver Springs, Fillmore, Centerville, Wiscoy-Rossburg and Nunda were on scene for about 4.5 hours.
