Batavia Downs Gaming presented a $1,000 check to the Cancer Services program at UMMC on Wednesday morning.

A small fundraiser at the Fall Craft Vendor Show on October 11th was set up at the event held at the Downs.

The Cancer Services Program, which is part of the Healthy Living Programs at UMMC, helps provide breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screenings at no cost to women over 40 and men over 50 who do not have health insurance.

“So very often when people come through our program, they don’t have health insurance and they have other health needs, so the funding we raise allows them to have other tests and things done(that are not covered in the program),” says Lisa Franclemont, RN/Coordinator/Health Educator at the Cancer Services Program.

The program is a state and federally funded program. The office at UMMC/Rochester Regional Health covers the area of Genesee, Orleans, Wyoming and Niagara Counties.

“Its absolutely needed, especially when you are working for a grant funded program, so any donations that come in can help our patients is much appreciated,” says Toni Funke, Patient Navigator at the Cancer Services Program.
