GENESEE COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT/Ross street man accused of having counterfeit money

Lawrence D. Williams Sr., 60, of Ross St., Batavia, is charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument 2nd, a class D felony, after the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a counterfeit one hundred dollar bill at a store on Veteran’s Memorial Drive in Batavia on October 4, 2020.

After an investigation, deputies say Williams Sr. allegedly knowingly presented the money as if it were real United States currency, allowing a transaction.

Williams was arraigned at the Genesee County Jail virtually, by Judge Charles Zambito, and released on his own recognizance.

The case was investigated by Deputy Ryan DeLong with assistance from Investigator Kevin Forsyth.

Salvatore P. Scarlata, 36, of Ladue Rd., Sweden, NY, was arrested on a warrant for criminal contempt 2nd on November 5, 2020, for allegedly violating an order of protection while at a residence in Stafford on October 10, 2020.

Scarlata fled the scene before responding patrols arrived and a warrant for his arrest was then issued.

Scarlata was arraigned by Judge Zambito for the Town of Stafford and he will return to court on November 12, 2020 at 6:00p.m.
