WYOMING COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT/Hunt man arrested following a traffic stop in Covington

Salvatore P. Scarlata, 36, of Hunt, NY, was arrested following a traffic stop on Route 246 in the Town of Covington on November 5, 2020.

Scarlata was stopped at 7:21a.m. for speeding, 74MPH in a 55MPH speed zone. Scarlata was also found to be allegedly driving with a suspended driver’s license for failure to pay child support.

During the traffic stop, Scarlata was allegedly found to be in possession of suspected fentanyl, marijuana, and other drug paraphernalia.

Scarlata performed poorly on roadside field sobriety testing at which time he was taken into custody. He was taken to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office where a Drug Influence Evaluation was conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert from the Arcade Police Department.

Scarlata was found to be impaired by multiple categories of drugs and unable to operate a vehicle safely. He is charged as follows:

DWAI/drugs, DWAI/by the combined influence of drugs, aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd degree, speeding/ over 55MPH, uninspected motor vehicle, criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th degree, criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument, criminally using drug paraphernalia 2nd degree, and unlawful possession of marijuana 2nd degree

Scarlata was issued an appearance ticket, and will answer the charges in the Town of Covington Court on November 16, 2020.

Scarlata was then turned over to the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office on an outstanding arrest warrant on the charge of criminal contempt 2nd degree.
