A traffic stop on Route 78 at Chaffee Road in the Town of Java on December 16, 2020, has led to the arrest of both vehicle occupants.
A 2017 Chevrolet Cruz was stopped by Wyoming County Sheriff’s deputies, after it was observed driving through a stop sign into the path of an oncoming tractor trailer, narrowly avoiding a serious collision.
Dana M. Cain, 50, of Yorkshire, was found to be the operator of the vehicle. Cain only had an identification card out of the State of Illinois with a suspended status. Tyler M. Smith, was the front right passenger of the vehicle.
Multiple packages, allegedly containing concentrated cannabis and marijuana, were located within the vehicle and seized as evidence, and both Cain and Smith were taken into custody.
After transport to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office, Cain performed poorly on standardized field sobriety testing. A subsequent drug influence evaluation by a Drug Recognition Expert found her to allegedly be impaired by multiple categories of drugs. Charges were filed against both Cain and Smith.
Smith is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th, unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of marijuana 2nd.
Cain is charged with DWAI/drugs, DWAI/combined influence of drugs, reckless driving, unlawful possession of marijuana 2nd, failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign and unlicensed operator.
Cain and Smith were both released on appearance tickets, and are scheduled to answer the charges in the Town of Java Court on January 6, 2021.
Kent O. J. Brink, 34, of Port St. Lucie, Fla, was arrested following a traffic stop on Route 20A at Orangeville Center Road in the Town of Orangeville on December 19, 2020.
Brink was stopped for traffic infractions and was found to be operating with a revoked driver’s license, with a total of four suspensions/revocations including Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol.
Brink was also allegedly found in unlawful possession of 24 Amphetamine pills and 6 Oxycodone pills with various items of drug use paraphernalia. Brink’s vehicle was towed from the scene, and Brink was taken to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation.
Following field sobriety testing, and Brink’s poor performance on the tests, a Wyoming County Drug Recognition Expert was called to assist. Following a drug influence evaluation, Brink was determined to be impaired by the combined influence of multiple drug categories and unable to operate a vehicle safely.
Brink is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th(2 Counts), DWAI/drugs- First Offense, DWAI/Combined Influence of Drugs – First Offense, aggravated unlicensed operation 1st, a class E felony, no front bumper, and unauthorized windshield stickers.
Brink was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to answer the charges in the Town of Orangeville Court on January 6, 2021.
